Apple Butter

It’s apple season and here’s one suggestion as to what you can do with all those apples. 


  • 5 1/2 pounds apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


  • Combine sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves and salt
  • Pour over apples and mix well
  • Cook on high in crock pot for 1 hour
  • Decrease to low and cook 9-11 hours or until thickened and dark brown
  • Stir occasionally
  • Uncover and cook on low for 1 hour
  • If you like, whisk until smooth
  • Cool & when you put into containers leave 1/2 inch -1 inch space on top of the jar
  • Apple Butter freezes well and makes a nice homemade gift around the holiday season
